Padmapriya is a thinking man’s actor, clear about her choices and roles.
She knows why she is here and how she needs to act! Her plate is full at the moment with films like Kobra, Ivan Megharoopan andNo 66 Madhurai Bus along with a few Kollywood projects.
“I would love to do an item song like Chikni Chameli or a Munni Badnaam Hui” — these words from Padmapriya is a call to the directors in Mollywood who are hellbent on giving her roles that are well beyond her years.
About her ‘mature’ roles, she says, “This happens only in Mollywood. I play my age in Kollywood and Tollywood. There is a general misconception here that characters with depth require one to be mature.
If one plays a girl with two plaits in Malayalam, you are considered frivolous! Playing a mature role does not mean being old. I look at it this way — if I can act with both Mammukka and Prithviraj and get away with it, it speaks volumes about my talent and reflects on the audience and director’s perception which has to change! Personally, I have no problem acting with any age group.”
Great acting chops are not her only claim! An MBA and a job in GE did not stop the intelligent Padmapriya from pursuing her tinsel dreams as well as her academic interests.
